Antioch CA is located in Contra Costa County in California. Situated on the East Bay side of San Francisco Bay, it has a population of over 100,500 people. Antioch is located on the banks of the San Joaquin River, just off Highway 4. It is one of California’s oldest cities.

According to Antioch’s official city website (ci.Antioch.ca.us) its rapid development of late has created high demand for contractors and other service-oriented business. Employment has increased in schools, financial institutions and hospitals, as well.
As a crossroads city linking San Francisco’s East Bay with Sacramento and the Central Valley, Antioch CA boasts a burgeoning population of professionals and skilled workers. The local Economic Development Department is committed to attracting and retaining local business interests. The EDD partners with Antioch’s Chamber of Commerce and various other business organizations to “position Antioch as a premier city in which to conduct business, both for the consumers and the business owners who serve them.”
Transportation
Antioch CA is well serviced by buses and trains which connect with other systems, such as the Bay Area’s BART. Nearby commercial airports include Oakland International, San Francisco International, Stockton and Sacramento. Private airports include Byron, Livermore and Concord (Buchanan Field).
Recreational Activities
There is always something to do in Antioch. Local parks and trails provide hiking and sightseeing opportunities for everyone, with more than 30 parks covering a total of over 300 acres of parkland, plus an additional 600 acres of open space. Eleven miles of pathways connect communities, parks and schools. Round Valley Regional Preserve, a preserve of over 2000 acres, is just outside of Antioch’s city limits.
Antioch’s City Council has recently approved the design of a large community center and Police Service Center. This state of the art facility will include a gym, a community hall, a technology center, meeting rooms and other services. It is scheduled to open in 2010.
Arts and Culture
Antioch is home to El Campanil Theater, which presents a variety of performing arts such as ballet, comedy acts, live theater and symphony. It also plays host to many local dance and community based events.
Graphic arts, performance arts and sculpture and pottery are organized and hosted by the Arts and Cultural Foundation of Antioch. It also hosts several annual festivals and concerts, including the Delta Blues Festival.
Antioch’s Historical Society Museum gives a glimpse into the past and Lynn House Gallery provides local artists with the opportunity to show off their talents, as does The Rivertown Art Center.
Education
The Antioch Unified School District manages the local public schools, which include four middle schools, three high schools and a number of elementary schools. Post secondary education is provided by the Western Career College and neighboring communities offer a variety of other options. Private schools in Antioch are primarily religious.

In the month of May 2008, the average sale price in Antioch CA was $291,765 compared to May 2007 average sale price of $486,582.
